Obituary of Mario Nicastro
Mario Nicastro, 92, of Edison, passed away Wednesday February 8, 2017 at the Hospice Center of the VA NJ Health Care System in Bernards Township. He was born in Montclair to the late Angelo and Isadorina Nicastro and had lived in Edison for the last fifty-eight years.
Mr. Nicastro was a US Army veteran of WWII, serving with the 562 Quartermaster Rail. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct and Victory Medals, the European Theartre of Operations Medal and of the Invasion Arrowhead. He was a member of the American Legion T. Nulty Post 471 in Iselin.
Mario was employed as a tailor by Roger's Clothes in Perth Amboy for forty-five years before retiring in 1990.
He was a member of the Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gloria (Thomas) Nicastro in 2005, and also by his sister Florence DeFalco and his brother Joseph Nicastro.
Surviving are his two daughters; Rosemary Potkulski and husband Ronald of New Egypt and Catherine Kavanagh of Edison; his two sons Thomas Nicastro and wife Phyllis of Elizabeth and Robert J. Nicastro of Edison, two brothers Ralph Nicastro of Clifton and Vincent Nicastro of Little Falls, five grandchildren; Thomas Jr., Vincent, Christina, Ashley and Robert Jr., and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday 10 am at the Mitruska Funeral Home, 531 New Brunswick Ave. in Fords. Followed by a 10:30 am Mass in the Our Lady of Peace RC Church also in Fords. Interment will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery in Piscataway. Visitation hours will be held Sunday from 4 pm to 8 pm. Memorial donations may be made to the American Legion T.
