Obituary of Delfin Mercado
Delfin Mercado, 80, of Perth Amboy, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy. Mr. Mercado was born in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico to the late Pablo and Maria Gonzales Mercado and had lived the last forty three years in Perth Amboy. He was employed as a driver by Checker Taxi in Perth Amboy for ten years before retiring in 1998. Mr. Mercado loved baseball and was a lifelong Mets fan. He enjoyed good food and good company and especially loved rice and beans with bacalao and vianda and a good cup of Bustelo coffee, playing domino's and cards.
He was predeceased by two brothers; Roberto "Reuben" Mercado and Angel "Guilli" Mercado.
Delfin is survived by his loving wife of forty one years, Dora Mercado, his children; Jimmy Mercado and wife Anna Maria of South Amboy, Eric Mercado and wife Marcia also of South Amboy, Miguel Arias and wife Paula of Orlando, FL, Delfin "Pelu" Mercado and wife Mimi of Brooklyn, NY, Hector "Polin" Mercado AKA Cold Hard Cash and wife Domenica of Bethlehem, PA, Miriam "Millie" Feliciano and husband Wally of Brooklyn, NY, Juan "Juancho" Mercado and wife Maria of York, PA, Anna "Margie" Cintron and husband Hector of Ocala, FL, Zoraida "Zori" Mercado of Brookln, NY, and Julio "Chucho" Mercado and wife Leticia of Perth Amboy. He is also survived by his Godson Carlos Barahona and wife Tanisha of Woodbridge, two sisters Gladys Guzman of Worcester, MA and Marta Muniz and husband Reynaldo of Orlando, FL and his Godbrother Confesor RIvera of San Sebastian, Puerto Rico, thirty-eight grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday 10:00 am at the Mitruska Funeral Home, Inc., 531 New Brunswick Ave., Fords. Interment will follow in the Alpine Cemetery in Perth Amboy. Visitation hours will be held Tuesday from 4 - 8 pm.
