Obituary of Virginia Brigatha McGarrell

Virginia Brigatha McGarrell, 88, of Metuchen, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022 at the J.F.K. Medical Center in Edison. Mrs. McGarrell was born in Beehive, Guyana to the late Hubert and Iris Griffith and emigrated to the United States in 1987. She had resided in Edison for many years before moving to Metuchen. Mrs. McGarrell was employed as a home health aide by Clara Barton Assisted Living before her retirement in 2007. Virginia loved knitting, crocheting, embroidery and cooking and was also an avid reader. She was predeceased by her husband Rudolph McGarrell in 2007, her sister Sybil Bernard and also by her cousin Dorothy Bogado. Surviving are her four sons: Colin McGarrell and wife Anita of Guyana, Nigel McGarrell of Brooklyn, NY, Neil McGarrell and wife Davone of East Orange, and Ken McGarrell also of Guyana, her seven daughters: Marilyn Byass and husband Frederick of Brooklyn, NY, Ava McGarrell and husband Curtis of Metuchen, Gail Ferguson and husband Rawle of Grenada, Patricia D. McGarrell of Metuchen, Denise Beccles and husband Joseph of Edison, Arlene Joseph of Edison, and Coretta Harry and husband Colin of Orange, her brother: Glandville Griffith of Beehive, Guyana, twenty-five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Virginia also leaves behind her cousin, Bibi Singh; dear friend, Marie Martin; dear friends, Maryann & Bill Hollenbach; and dear friend, Georgianne Murray. Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:00 am at the Mitruska Funeral Home, Inc., 531 New Brunswick Ave., Fords. Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery in Metuchen. Visitation hours will be held Saturday morning from 8:00 am till time of service.
