Obituary of Patricia Smith-Gerhardt

Patricia Smith-Gerhardt, 85, of Roselle , passed away Sunday, October 29, 2017 at the Center for Hope Hospice and Palliative Care in Scotch Plains. She was born in Newark to the late Chester and Rose Rota and had previously lived in Westfield, Fords And Venice, FL before moving to Roselle .

Patricia spent her life in the fields of social work and real estate prior to her retirement.

She loved to dance and was both a student and teacher of life.

In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Joan Dimeo and by her daughter-in-law, Leah Smith.

Surviving are her five sons: Robert C. Smith and his wife Donna of Arp, TX, Steven R. Smith and his wife Roberta of Fords, Wade Smith of Edison, Chester P. Smith and his wife Julie of Flemington and Jeffrey W. Smith of Plainfield, IL, her sister Rose Brady of Roseland, five grandchildren; Brandon, Steven, Jessica, Daniel and Devin, eight great grandchildren; Dominic, Trenton, Rileigh, Lucas, Kyleigh, Kaden, Bianca and Raquel and also by several beloved nieces and nephews.

Private funeral services were entrusted to the care of the Mitruska Funeral Home, 531 New Brunswick Ave. Fords. A celebration of Patricia's life will be held at a later date. Having dedicated her adult life to assisting battered woman, memorial donations may be made to a woman's shelter of one's choice.
